Wrap Around Goals

Skating around the back of the net and wristing a shot at goal is not a wrap around goal. Some of you may not realize it, but there is a specific "wrap around" animation that is triggered if you shoot at a specific time. When skating behind the goal, if you shoot when your player is coming around behind the post, your player will automatically go into an animation where he stretches out and tries to wrap the puck right inside the post. Your success is determined by when you time your shot, your angle coming around the back of the goal, and the goalies position. A lot of times, the goalie will stuff your shot, and the puck will get trapped between the goalie and the post. If you poke check at it and get your stick right in between the post and the goalie before the whistle is blown, you can push the puck in for a goal. In the videos I show a successful backhand wrap around goal, and a few stuffed attempts.

  1. How often does this move actually work for you? I find it quite hard to sneak up in the right angle and at the same time aim for the near post. Sometimes it will get the puck in, but only if the goalie moves slow.

  2. I find it works every once in a while. I put it in my arsenal of moves and try it a few times a game with some success. I have scored a few times by overshooting and getting it through the 5 hole. Its best to use on rebounds that bounce behind the goal, where if your quick enough you can catch the goalie out of position. You shouldnt have to aim at all on this shot, just hit up on the right stick as you pass the behind the near post. Your timing will determine well you wrap it around the post. As you can see in the second video on the first attempt, I timed it too late and completely missed the goal.

  3. I started to use this move more now and It's just as you say that it works best on rebounds that bounds behind goal. I've also had success with the move by dropping a pass down along the boards to a player behind net.
